The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating the deaths of an elderly Korean couple in Duluth.

According to Gwinnett County police, the victims were Sun Hee Choi(59) and her husband Young Chan Choi(63), owners of Best Supply, a restaurant supply business in Norcross. They had both been stabbed to death inside their home.

The fatal stabbings happened just before 9:20p.m. last Saturday at 2578 Worrall Hill Way in Thomhill Commons, east of Duluth. The police were dispatched at 9:48p.m.and they responded at about 10:00p.m., according to the Gwinnett police.

Witnesses reportedly told authorities that they saw a white passenger car at the scene prior to the crime and one of the two unknown Korean males at the couple’s home before the stabbing took place, carrying a box of Fuji apples as a customary Korean gesture for invited guests.

“Witnesses reported that they were allowed inside and there did not seen to be any kind of scuffle at the door,” said Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Jake Smith. “Neighbors heard screams from the home shortly after the two suspects visited the home. [The neighbors] have been fearful since hearing about the stabbing, but they were constantly watching over their shoulders.”

Mrs. Sarah Park, a neighbor, told the police that she was shopping Saturday night when she received a call from her sister.

“My sister said she saw two guys go in the house while she was watering the garden around 9p.m. About 10 minutes later, she heard screams and saw the shadow of apparently striking motion through a partially open blind at the house next door,” said Mrs. Park.

Mrs. Park called her brother-in-law, who quickly came to the home to check on her sister. He also peered through the partially open blind at the house, where he found the bloody deceased. They immediately called the police.

No suspects or vehicles were present by the time officers arrived. By Sunday afternoon, the only evidence that police had been at the house were smudges of fingerprint dust, left on the door frame. On the landing and steps were two bloody footprints. But The Gwinnett County Police Department Homicide Unit has developed probable cause to arrest 45 year old male, Ki Song Kim of Duluth in connection with the double homicide. He has been charged with 2 counts of Felony Murder and 2 counts of Aggravated Assault. He was transported to Gwinnett County Jail and is being held without bond.

“At this time, detectives do not know why the victims were targeted or if it had to do with the fact that they owned a business,” said Gwinnett County Police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter.

The Korean community is very shocked at the double homicide news and the neighbors and acquaintances of the deceased couple don’t know what to do.

“It is very unusual because they have been such good and quiet neighbors. This has taken us all by surprise,” said Jeffrey Long, a neighbor, who lives a few doors down.

Shin Kang, the couple’s friend and business associate of 20 years, is also very shocked and at his wits’ end.

“They didn’t harm other people. They are just very generous. Just good citizens,” Kang said.

An investigation is still underway to ascertain the whereabouts of the remaining suspect in the double homicide. Gwinnett county police are asking the public’s help in finding who killed the Duluth couple over the past weekend and urge residents to be vigilant until the arrest is made.
